How Do I Adopt a Puppy?

Would you like to be the parent of a Lonesome Grove Beagle puppy?

Here is a description of the process:

1. Wait and watch.
  • About a week before a litter is available, a notification will be posted on our website and facebook page letting everyone know the day & time of the upcoming puppy debut on our site.
  • We do not keep or use a waiting list for the adoption of puppies. All reservations are made through a first-come-first-served process after they are posted on our site upon completing their 4 week veterinary health check.

2. Please keep in mind that you will have to travel to Tyndall, SD to pick up your puppy in person.

  • As of October 2013 we longer ship pups via air, professional pet transport businesses, or Aunt Mabel who will be in the area that weekend. This is a matter of changes in laws concerning the legal classification of kennels in an effort to end puppy mills which rely on third parties (e.g.: brokers and pet shops) to operate. We are not them, and do not wish to be mistaken as such. So pups will go directly from our hands to the hands of their new family, always.
  • We also no longer travel to do meet-ups, as our schedules will not allow it. We understand that our location is generally a far distance for many people; yet through the years we have had puppy families drive here from as far west as San Diego, CA and as far east as Key West, FL. The wagging tails and puppy kisses waiting for you will make the trek worthwhile every time!

3. Make a definite commitment to a specific puppy by stating "I would like to adopt so-and-so". At this time the puppy will be placed "ON HOLD". That way others know that the adoption process for that pup is in the works.

  • The first folks to contact us by email ( lonesomegrovebeagles@gmail.com ) with the name of the puppy they want, will be the one to get it. We will go in the exact order the requests are received.
  • There have been many times when all pups have been spoken for in under 10 minutes of their listing. Because of this it is not only okay, but recommended that when puppy pictures are initially released you send a 2nd or even 3rd choice in your email to avoid moving "to the back of the line" with a follow up request.
  • We will respond to each email in turn with either our apologies or our congratulations.

4. After we have given you confirmation that you have a puppy "ON HOLD", you will be emailed an invoice via PayPal so that you can make your $300 (non-refundable) deposit. PayPal is a widely used and secure way of making payments online. We have been using it for many years and have never had any security issues with it. We simply send an invoice to your email address. From the invoice you will be prompted on how to make your payment. You can use any debit or credit card (no need to have a Paypal account). Upon receipt of your deposit, your puppy is then listed as "RESERVED". If a deposit has not been received by the following day the pup will once again be made available for others.

5. Now it is waiting time until your puppy is old enough to leave for its new home. We strive to update our blog with new pictures of the puppies weekly, so that you can see them grow and mature.

6. Puppies can generally be picked up at about 8 weeks. Most often the puppies are eating well by 4 weeks and fully weaned by the end of the 5th week. We are concerned about the best interest of the puppy as well as your specific situation. If the best time for your new baby to arrive for you is at 9 weeks, that is also no problem. We normally prefer that puppies begin their bonding with their new family by the time they reach 10 weeks of age.

7. Receive your puppy. Give it a hug. Let it go potty. Then love as needed --- for a lifetime!
